The Romany 10-watt amplifier
started life as the Stinger: a project undertaken for The Guitar
Magazine (TGM). DC Developments was asked to design a simple amplifier
for readers to build as a kit, which we considered to be a great
idea.
The design was based on a Fender "Champ"
single-ended Class "A". (Like all Fender amplifiers, there
have been several models using the same name.) It resulted in our
incorporating the early "Champ" which had just a volume
control, and their later model, which included treble and bass tone
controls. This was achieved by adding an EQ switch which simply
switched out the EQ stack. Since the initial design, we have added
a power reducer which cuts the power down to 3 watts.
The simplicity of design ensures low background noise,
making both amplifiers ideal for home and studio recording. Both
the Romany and the Romany Plus have Jensen speakers, along with
some classic tweaks to give a nice, classy, clean tone.
The Romany and the Romany Plus are finished in black
on green covering as standard. |
